Biography

Dr Kym Campbell is a Senior lecturer at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information as well as a Department lead in digital storytelling, broadcast, and cinema studies including holding a co-appointment with the School of Art Design and Media. He is the Vice-Chair of the International Association of Film, Television and Media schools for Asia pacific. A member of IN-cube, the Centre for Information Integrity, and the Internet. His research interests are in broadcast media, journalism, cinema studies and performance, and mobile media and communication. Prior to joining NTU, he held faculty positions in Singapore at NUS, La Salle and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He also worked at SBC, Television Corporation of Singapore, and MediaCorp. He has been a senior media consultant to MediaCorp and consultant to the BBC, Bloomberg, MediaPrima Malaysia, TV3, TV7 and the ABC. He was instrumental in training the producers, broadcast journalists, directors and presenters and was integral in training for the inception of Channel News Asia, in 1997. Kym is a specialist in drama, lifestyle, documentaries, current affairs, sports and news programs. He has advised the government and industry in the television and radio advisory committee and has been a consultant to the Singapore government, the Australian government and various business sectors within private industry. He has also been on the academic review committee for Goldsmiths (University of London). In Australia, he has worked for the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Southern Queensland, as well as for various networks in both the UK and Australia. Kym has written several books, including (2019) Extending Teaching boundaries: Integrating Film directing and design in the 21st Century. In The 21st Century Film, TV and Media School (1st ed, Vol.2) Sofia press. And presently book editor (2022) “Teaching and Learning Documentary for the 21st Century”, Sofia Press He has directed, produced, presented, and performed in numerous films, television programs and theatres in both the UK and Australia.
