Biography

Jean holds a PhD and MA in Applied Linguistics from Nanyang Technological University. She obtained her BA from the National University of Singapore and her DipEd (Postgrad) from the Institute of Education (NUS). Jean focuses on ESP/EAP spoken discourse and multimodality in Applied Linguistics research. Currently, Jean serves as an Assistant Chair in SoH, managing communications and community engagement-related matters. She is also the Editor-in-Chief for the School of Humanities biannual publication, Constellations. Jean is a consultant in the School of Humanities Peer Teaching Consultation programme, helping to develop effective teaching skills for her peers. She actively contributes to education programmes in Singapore, such as serving in MOE Engineering & Tech Programme Scholarship (2024) events as a speaker, workshop trainer and judge. She was an invited judge for the Social Innovation Entrepreneurship Programme 2024 to support experiential learning among NTU students and alumni. She also serves as a Harvard Business Review Advisory Council member, an opt-in research community of business professionals to help shape the future of HBR content ideas. In AY2019/2020, Jean won the SoH Lecturer Excellence (LEX) Award which recognises her contributions to teaching. Over the years, she has served as a curriculum leader, developer, and course coordinator for Engineering Communication courses. She has also served as the Chief Examiner for the NTU Entrance Examination (NEE) for English Language, leading a team of faculty and staff to oversee the design and review of examination papers and their assessment processes.
