Biography
Projects and Research Interests
My projects are mainly in theatre – I write plays. My plays have been described as character-driven and very Singaporean. My plays invariably feature women, people of different backgrounds, and persons with special abilities. I am currently writing a play with music for Rainbow Centres (Margaret Drive and Yishun) that features a cast of their students with special abilities, and their staff. My shorter plays are easily performed in schools, and I get invited to schools to talk about my writing craft and aesthetic vision. My research interests include dramaturgy and TBL (Team-Based Learning).
Teaching
I teach Writing and Reasoning to scholars in the Renaissance Engineering Programme and Writing Across The Disciplines in the CN Yang Scholars Programme. In addition, I offer two electives to scholars in the NTU-University Scholars Programme - Dramatic Texts: Adaptation & Improvisation, a creative writing course, and Fables, Folklore & Literature, an English course.
I supervise students from the English Programme in their Final Year Projects and URECA, and my areas of supervision include the Romantic Era, Singapore Literature, Literature and Music, and Creative Writing. And who’s not afraid of Robert Browning’s poetry, please approach me.
I am one of three advisors to the English Club Epiphany and I am also involved with NTU-USP Club’s creative arm, USProductions, where our scholars write, produce and perform their own plays.
