Biography

Dr Ou Zhao is currently a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He received his B.Eng. degree from Central South University in 2011 and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Imperial College London in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He then worked as a postdoc at Imperial College London and was also awarded the Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) Postdoctoral Fellowship. He joined NTU as an Assistant Professor on 23 November 2016 and was promoted to an Associate Professor with Tenure in February 2023. His principal research interests lie in the areas of high-performance steel and composite structures; more specifically, these include stainless steel structures, high strength steel structures, steel-concrete composite structures and fire engineering. He has published over 160 top-tier journal papers in Thin-Walled Structures, Engineering Structures, Reliability Engineering and System Safety, Journal of Structural Engineering, Journal of Constructional Steel Research and Ocean Engineering. As a Principal Investigator, he has received research grants totalling over 3.5 million Singapore dollars under his name. He has been listed among the top 2% scientists (single year) by Stanford University since 2020. He received the Young Researcher Award at the Sixth International Conference on Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation (SEMC 2016). He is regarded as the Built Environment Young Leader by Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Singapore. He serves as the Special Issues Editor of Thin-Walled Structures (NTU Tier 1A) and is in charge of selecting special issue topics, organising special issues and handling manuscripts submitted to all special issues of the journal. He also serves as an Assistant Editor of Engineering Structures (NTU Tier 1A). He is passionate about teaching and won the prestigious Nanyang Education Award (School) 2021.
