Abstract

By utilizing the nonlinear acoustic behavior in air, parametric loudspeaker has a unique feature in reproducing high-directivity sound with a small aperture. With our recently developed acoustic filter using phononic crystals to eliminate spurious sound, a preliminary experimental study of parameters' effects on parametric loudspeaker is carried out in this study, including the aperture effect and the sideband effect of the single sideband amplitude modulation (SSB-AM) method to the frequency response of the demodulated difference-frequency sound. Three different apertures are considered, and both the upper SSB-AM and the lower SSB-AM are investigated, which helps us to enhance the design of parametric loudspeaker.
