Abstract

A cellular automata (CA) model which adopts the findings of tenability analysis is proposed to simulate the evacuation from a smoke filled room. Two algorithms viz. direct algorism and indirect algorism are used to model the behavior of a crowd consisting of people having different movement velocities. An experimental formula used for estimating survival duration in a static system is extended to a dynamic system and incorporated into the CA model. As a numerical example, a varying multi-velocity case is studied and the result shows that the simulation is reasonable.
