Abstract

The improvements in the use of biofilms in wastewater treatment, described in a IWA published book called 'Biofilms in Wastewater Treatment', are discussed. The book limits its technical coverage to the beneficial roles of biofilms in treating wastewater in bioreactors. The idea for the book stemmed from a workshop sponsored by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) in Germany in 1998. The book has laid emphasis on interdisciplinary approach. It is useful both as a reference and a teaching aid.
