Abstract
The performance of capillary barrier system consisting of residual soil as the fine-grained layer and gravelly sand as the coarse-grained layer was analyzed. The drying soil-water charactersitic curve (SWCC) of the residual soil was obtained using Temple cell test and Pressure plate test. The capillary barrier model was subjected to several infiltration and evaporation processes. Water which was retained in the fine-grained layer was released at a very slow rate, during the evaporation process under laboratory ambient conditions.
