Abstract

In this issue of Chem Catalysis, Yan and co-workers describe a distal difunctionalization of aldehydes through a triplet state of deprotonated Breslow intermediates, involving an NHC-derived biradical species featuring unique reactivity that is formed upon excitation under thermal conditions resulting from the strikingly low singlet-triplet gap.
