Abstract

To avoid troublesome battery replacement, vibration energy harvesting techniques have aroused numerous research interests recently in order to implement self-powered Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). One main challenging issue in this area is the limited bandwidth of the conventional linear energy harvesters, while the majority of ambient vibrations are present as random sources with wide spectra. This study proposes a broadband Piezoelectric Energy Harvester (PEH) by exploiting nonlinear oscillations with a magnetic oscillator. Both harmonic and random tests are performed and the dynamic characteristics of the nonlinear system are investigated. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed nonlinearPEHto the linear one.
