Abstract

This paper deals with a dynamic compaction of AlLi powders reinforced by SiC whiskers. The dynamic compaction at the flyer velocity of 1300 ms-1 is achieved by using preforms. The change in density as the function of the flyer velocity is measured. The highest density is obtained at 700ms-1 and the density increases with the increase in the flyer velocity. The vickers hardness number shows the same tendency as the density. Furthermore microstructural observation shows traces of melting around the powder particles at the flyer velocity of over 1000 ms-1.
