Abstract
This paper deals with efficiency optimization at low output power for hybrid Si + SiC neutral-point-clamped (NPC) dual-active-bridge (DAB) converters for energy storage systems. The hybrid topology has advantages as the power loss distribution changes compared to the conventional full Si IGBT-based NPC DAB converter. However, it requires a special modulation method, and the power loss modeling is complex because of the hybrid structure. A neural network is applied to explore the operating point for optimal efficiency at low output power. The neural network has two hidden layers, one input layer, and one output layer. The model is trained with 3960 experimental results and validated by a 2-kW prototype with new data. The efficiency improves to above 96% at low output power.
