Abstract
The analysis of information from past disasters can often provide insight to problems faced during a crisis. While advancements in technology allows us to gather data during a disaster, there is a lack of tools that can help researchers visualize and effectively analyze the data. On top of that, there is a necessity to identify suitable visualization methods for this purpose. In this paper, Tree View, Radial Graph and Excel visualizations were evaluated with the aim of finding the most useful and intuitive visualization. An information visualization system prototype called the Disaster InfoViz tool was developed as a platform for this purpose. The findings of a user evaluation on the system showed that the Tree View method was found to be the most effective visualization method for the analysis of disaster management information.
