Abstract

The development of advanced and novel products for the biotechnology industry has recently been a point of focus, and thus research has been carried out to determine a technique for integration of the upstream process with product recovery. This integration step allows products to be in an acceptable state for formulation and delivery. The purpose of process integration is to allow objectives to be carried out efficiently and promptly by combining two or more processes. In a nutshell, the implementation of LBSs in process integration is an appealing replacement of discrete processes for the recovery of biological products. Currently, there are four main areas of research related to process integration using LBSs, which are extractive conversion, extractive fermentation, cell disruption integrated with product primary recovery, and extractive purification. In this chapter, the study of cell disruption integrated with product primary recovery is discussed.
