Abstract

Based on the operating principle of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind turbines, this paper constructs the simulation model of the PMSG-based wind farms connecting to a power grid on the PSCAD/ETDMC simulation platform. The wind farm is aggregated to a re-scaled wind turbine, and its frequency response characteristics at various wind speeds were studied under different conditions of frequency disturbances. Simulation results reveal that PMSG-based wind turbines frequency responses under different wind speeds have obvious clustering characteristics. These findings will be helpful to study the frequency response characteristics and grid stability of large-scale wind power connected power systems, and further improve the consu-mption of renewable energy.
