Abstract

There is high-pressure processing equipment in LNG import and export terminals, e.g., vaporizers in LNG import terminals, that can result in aerosolized release of LNG and can potentially lead to an explosion. Therefore, in addition to the consequence modeling performed for code compliance, facilities must model high pressure releases and vapor cloud explosions for optimizing plant layout, deciding risk mitigation measures, and terminal/building siting. A discussion covers the failure rates and scenarios modeled for LNG facilities, i.e., a full line rupture and a tank failure; consequences of high pressure release; and implications for LNG facilities. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AIChE Spring National Meeting and 5th Global Congress on Process Safety (Tampa, FL 4/26-30/2009).
