Abstract

Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-NiCoCrAlY alloy composite coatings were synthesized using DC plasma spray deposition. Functionally graded coatings were obtained through varying the YSZ/alloy ratios in the composite powders during deposition onto nickel substrate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) analysis confirmed the presence of Cr2O3+ZrO2, Al2O3+ZrO2 and limited NiO+ZrO2 mixtures, respectively. Tensile bond test was used to determine the extent of strength enhancement in the coatings by different oxide mixtures.
