Abstract

In this paper, a new method for estimating the acoustic properties of sound absorbing material in-situ under reproduced plane wave sound field is proposed. The plane wave sound field is reproduced in front of the material surface by a linear loudspeaker array, and the standard transfer function method is used to measure acoustic impedance and absorption coefficient. Numerical simulation shows that this method can accurately measure absorption coefficient of materials with different flow resistivity values in the frequency range of 100-1600 Hz. Experiments are performed in a semi-anechoic chamber to examine the feasibility of the proposed method. Compared with the values obtained with the impedance tube method and two other existing in-situ measurement methods, the results demonstrate that the proposed method gives acceptable results over 300-1600 Hz.
