Abstract

Modified phase-only correlator (MPOC) has been proposed for high-resolution multi-target ranging. However, its performance has been found to be deteriorated by Ultra Wideband (UWB) pulse distortion in practical two-way ranging systems, where there are multiple passive reflectors. From experimental measurement, a new received signal model that accounts for the pulse distortion has been proposed, and an MPOC-based ranging algorithm that uses a parametric local template is presented accordingly. The new MPOC algorithm has a higher probability of correct detection of the reflectors. Moreover, it only requires one-time calibration for the local template, which is advantageous for practical applications.
