Abstract

Plastics have become integral parts of modern life, but the indiscriminate disposal of non-biodegradable plastic waste has created an environmental crisis worldwide. In this issue of Chem Catalysis, Luca and co-workers report a groundbreaking, organocatalyzed electroreductive approach to depolymerizing polyethylene terephthalate back to its monomers ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid.
