Abstract

Both photoluminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) properties of 6,6″″-dimethyl-4′,4‴-diphenyl-2,2′ :6′,2″:6″,2‴:6‴,2″″ -quinquepyridine (DMDPQPY), a derivative of quinquepyridine, have been investigated. Its solution in CHCl3 emits with only one maximum at 365nm, but an additional new emission peak appears at 553nm in the PL spectrum of its film prepared through vacuum evaporation. Only weak EL emission can be observed from typical single-layer devices, but introduction of a hole-transporting layer polyvinylcarbazole (PVK) in the double-layer devices results in significant enhancement of the luminance. Both PVK and DMDPQPY emit in the double-layer devices.
