Abstract

Plasma spraying processes are utilized for a wide range of industrial applications. This chapter reviews some fundamental aspects of plasma-spraying technology with the aim of understanding and controlling particular processes and mechanisms governing the formation and properties of plasma-sprayed coatings. The chapter mainly highlights the current status of plasma spraying in the biomedical field and the problems associated with plasma spray coating of hydroxyapatite which has shown promising effects on rapid bone remodeling and suitable functional life in orthopedic and dental applications.
