Abstract

High-density molecular brush surfaces were prepared and their interaction with bio-colloids was investigated. High-density polymer brush surfaces were obtained by using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)-mediated living radical polymerization. Characterization was carried out by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), ellipsometry and bio-colloids adsorption, and quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) was used for evaluating protein adsorption. The results show that polymerization with free initiator, p-toluenesulfonyl chloride, proceeded in a living fashion at low conversions and afforded a high-density graft layer of polymers.
