Abstract

The reaction of Cp*Ir(CO)2 with activated perfluoroaromatic compounds such as pentafluoropyridine and -benzonitrile afforded the metallocarboxylic acids Cp*Ir(COOH)(L)(CO), L = C 5F4N or C6F4CN, respectively. The reaction probably proceeds via aromatic nucleophilic substitution followed by nucleophilic attack by water at one of the carbonyl ligands.
