Abstract
Good design guidelines and principles that should be incorporated into hypertext systems in order to reduce information overload are highlighted. Two experiments are carried out to confirm that these guidelines and principles are similar both from the users' and designers' perspectives. Finally, it is emphasized that besides using good design guidelines and principles, hypertext authors should ensure that users' needs are accurately captured and represented.
