Abstract

Phase-Only Correlator (POC) provides a way to detect signal arrival times with high resolution using non-chirp UWB pulse waveforms. However, when used with many existing UWB pulse shapes, POC requires a noise suppression filter to suppress the internal amplified noise components. The noise suppression filter in turn introduces undesirable sidelobes and widens the correlation peaks. We address this problem by proposing a new UWB pulse design paradigm that can be used with POC without noise suppression. Two approaches to synthesize the new pulse waveform are also proposed. The proposed system is verified by both computer simulation and hardware implementation.
