Abstract
This chapter discusses the production of single-cell microbial protein using anaerobic digestate. Quick overview of conventional treatment methods of anaerobic digestate was presented, followed by introduction of several protein-rich unicellular microbes (namely, purple non-sulphur bacteria, aerobic heterotrophic bacteria, and microalgae). Benefits and challenges of single-cell production using anaerobic digestate were later deliberated to assess the reliability and practicability of a potential integration of single-cell protein production and anaerobic digestion.
