Abstract
The rise of deepfakes raises key questions: Who is susceptible to them, who shares them, and how should they be regulated? Drawing from survey data from seven countries in Asia, this chapter discusses demographic, political, and cognitive factors influencing vulnerability to deepfakes. It also discusses the implications of these findings for democracies in Asia, highlighting challenges and considerations in managing deepfake technology to safeguard public trust and democratic integrity.
