Abstract

This paper reports a practical case study of structural model updating utilizing measured vibration data from an ambient vibration field test. The target structure consists of two inter-connected floor steel trusses, and each truss is supporting a reinforced concrete slab. This paper first briefly describes the target structure, the experimental setup and the measurement arrangements of a field test for obtaining the ambient vibration data. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the first three vertical vibration modes were identified from the measured time-domain accelerations from the ambient field test. The identified modal parameters together with the associated uncertainties were then employed for the structural model updating of the structure following the Bayesian statistical system identification approach. Very encouraging results were obtained showing that the idea of structural model updating using measured modal parameters is possible.
