Abstract

The Object-Oriented Modular Expert System Shell (OOMESS) is an expert system shell which is designed with the objective of integrating a production system with an object-oriented language. A description is given of the design of OOMESS. The view projected by OOMESS consists of a collection of objects with the capability of communicating with each other. OOMESS provides system support for the modularization of a large rule base into smaller rule groups and provides flexible interactions among rule groups through message passing. The functionality provided by OOMESS includes the accessibility of other rule groups, user-defined objects, and the underlying language from the production rules of a rule group.
