Abstract

Pyrolysis of the organometallic polymer [Ru(CO)4] affords metallic ruthenium nanofibers. The molecular structure, especially the presence of metal-metal bonds, appears to direct the aggregation of the metal atom chains upon loss of the carbonyl ligands.
