Abstract

Free-standing, ultrathin manganese dioxide nanoflakes were synthesized by cationic surfactant controlled reduction of KMnO4. MnO2 nanoflakes showed a much higher mass activity than other manganese based oxides as well as B and N doped nano carbons.
