Abstract

A study on the use of sewage sludge and copper slag for land reclamation is presented in this paper. The physical, chemical and geotechnical properties of sewage sludge and copper slag are characterized. Methods to mix sludge with binders, copper slag and other waste materials before disposal and consolidate the mixture on site using fill or vacuum surcharge and prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) are proposed. The geotechnical aspects of the proposed methods are studied by conducting model tests using a fully instrumented consolidation tank. Some of the test results are presented in this paper.
