Abstract
Rapidly solidified in-situ composite coatings reinforced by primary and eutectic Ti5Si3 intermetallic phases were prepared on Ti-6Al-4V substrates precoated with silicon powder by means of laser surface alloying. The microstructure of the laser surface alloyed Ti5Si3/ß-Ti in-situ composite coatings and the wear resistance of the coatings under the wear conditions of dry sliding and two-body abrasive were studied. The results show that both the hardness and wear resistance of alloy Ti-6Al-4V were significantly improved after laser surface alloying.
