Biography

Wong Y.D. (Wong Yiik Diew) is an Associate Professor, and Acting Associate Chair (Faculty), at Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) School (with 1,500 students & 50 faculty), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. He graduated B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering/ transportation engineering at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. At NTU, he conducts undergraduate/ graduate courses in transportation, highway engineering, traffic engineering, road safety engineering, urban studies, civil engineering materials, statistics and mathematics. He is Supervisor to 23 graduated PhD candidates (20 as Lead Supervisor) and 4 active PhD candidates. He is also Supervisor to 7 M.Eng. theses, 19 M.Sc. transport/logistics dissertations, 196 bachelor degrees' research projects, and 38 URECA projects. He is recipient of the Teacher-of-the-Year (CSE School) Award 2000 , and the Nanyang Education Award (CEE School) 2018. He had held various previous appointments. This includes Associate Chair (Academic) in CEE School, Director of Centre for Infrastructure Systems (CIS), Deputy Director of NTU-LTA Transport Research Centre (TRC@NTU), Director of Bachelor of Science (Maritime Studies) Programme, Deputy Director of Master of Science (Logistics) Programme, and Director of B.Eng.(Civil Engineering) Programme. In recent 10 years (2014-2023), he is involved in 27 research projects with total research grants of S$9.8 million (and a Principal Investigator in S$5.4 million research grants). He was a Lead Principal Investigator in Rapid Road Transit (RRT) programme in NRF-TUM CREATE 2. He is an Author in 248 publications (225 are journal articles) as listed in Scopus. He is also listed among the top 2% scientists 2023 by Stanford University. His R&D interests are in sustainable urban mobility; road safety engineering & practices; driver & traveller behaviours; pedestrian safety & accessibility; bicycle transport & infrastructure; and innovative construction materials in pavement. He has also undertaken research in freight transport; maritime safety & security; maritime manpower developments; urban studies. He is a Member of Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Singapore (CILTS), and Senior Member of Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEngSG) (Railway and Transportation). He is also Member of Technical Committee on Railway and Transportation Engineering (IES). [27 Aug 2024]
