Abstract

An overview of red-light surveillance camera systems have been implemented to reduce the number of accidents at traffic intersections. These camera systems have been implemented at traffic intersections to deal with the problems of red-light violations and traffic collisions at intersections. The country considered the results of such systems implemented in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Malaysia while implementing them in its traffic intersections. The red-light camera system serves as a visible enforcement tool that provides a deterrent effect on red-light violation. Traffic light surveillance camera systems have been installed in the country from August 1986. The basic system consists of a 35-mm camera together with a monitor display unit in a housing perched on a drop-pole that allows easy mounting and dismounting of the camera system.
